For my birthday over the weekend, Rob and I knocked out the Kaaterskill high peak trail, followed by a visit to one of Catskills’ most beautiful falls—the nearby Kaaterskill Falls. Have you been?

Kaaterskill Falls is a 260-foot tall, two-tiered waterfall that is just 1.4 miles roundtrip from the parking lot. It has become somewhat Insta-famous over the past few summers, but chances are in winter, you’ll be the only ones there!

We first saw Kaaterskill Falls for my birthday two years ago, and always wanted to come back. Late February brings a landscape of snow, ice and plenty of thick, large-scale icicles with a hint of vibrant blue, like a glacier.

Winter in the Catskills is gorgeous, serene and unreal at times. We are just a few peaks away from earning our winter patch. We have had so many amazing hikes and memories (and now several birthdays) in this special region.
